General Information:
Prevention Services provides early identification of children
birth to 18 who are at risk of experiencing abuse or social-emotional
developmental delays. We provide early intervention to strengthen
protective factors to reduce these risks and increase children’s
school readiness.
Available Services:
- Parent Training Programs to provide necessary tools to
promote positive communication and interaction between parent
and child
- Early Outreach Identification (Childreach) delivers consultation
and early intervention services to children age’s
birth to five, their parents, and caregivers at child care
sites.
- School Outreach Services includes on-site, individual
or group intervention to children in grades K-12 and their
families, and consultation to teachers in the school setting.
- Training on mental health topics for the general public
and professionals.
Admission Criteria:
Prevention services are provided primarily to students, parents
and teachers before a diagnosis is made, in an effort to prevent
the need for further treatment. The services are designed
to be short-term and community-based and may provide a referral
linkage to further treatment if necessary.
- Students showing early signs of emotional issues that
are leading to academic and school attendance problems in
school, pre-school or child-care settings.
- Parents, teachers and other child-serving professionals
needing training about mental health and/or parenting issues.
- Professionals needing training about infant mental health.
Additional Information:
Prevention Services are not usually delivered to students
already diagnosed with a mental illness and in treatment.
